The British Library has blogged (“The First ‘Kobzar’“) the anniversary of the first publication of Taras Shevchenko’s collection of poetry – a founding volume of modern Ukrainian literature. It’s interesting to compare Shevchenko’s influence with the founding volumes of modern Norman literature – the first published collections of Dgèrnésiais and Jèrriais poetry in 1831 and 1865 respectively. The first half of the 19th century witnessed a revival of interest in the literatures of so-called regional languages in Europe.
